I ♥ nerds

This weekend was insane. I hardly got any sleep, but I had the best fun. Most of it was spent with Teh Boyfriend, as it was his birthday, but we managed to fit in a bit of Halloween fright and s’more birthday nerdiness on top.

Before heading over to Em’s “I heart nerds”-themed birthday bash Friday night, we stopped by Bridges Studios for the second annual Halloween Haunted Studio Tour. In a group of 30, we were taken on a 40-minute tour, passing through sets from Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Blade 3 and others probably specifically constructed for the event, while I clamped on to Teh Boyfriend’s arm and looked over my shoulder for anything or anyone that could jump out at me. Before you start making fun of me, there were others who were much more frightened; namely, a little girl, who actually felt the need to bring her stuffed animal with her and started wailing at the first sign of a scare. Psh, what a wuss! :P

Okay, honestly, it really wasn’t all that scary. I yelped once when a vampire unexpectedly came hissing at me as I entered through the doors to one of the sets. And I jumped a couple times. But other than that, I was fine. Absolutely fine. Maybe a little paranoid at the end. (I was convinced that it wasn’t truly the end and that there had to be at least one more scare. Yeah, yeah, shut up.)

Anyway, having been sufficiently spooked, we booked it over to Em’s place to get down and nerdy! In typical fashion, the birthday girl was a fabulous host, providing not only snacks and drinks, but also a sweet glamour shots “studio”, nunchucks, and other nerdy gear, which included a huge pair of glasses that I borrowed for the evening. Everyone also wore name tags with nerd-appropriate names. For example, Emily was Gertrude. I? Was Violet. (People who were nerdy enough got the SBTB reference. Yay, nerds!) And Teh Boyfriend naturally followed suit as Dirty Screech Sanchez.

As the evening winded down, Em/Gertrude sat down to open her gifts. Hilariously though, when she opened our present, Natalie revealed to me that she had gotten her the same thing. We got into a bit of a nerd fight, but a truce was declared soon after. Great minds think alike after all. Anyway, once Em finished tearing at the gifts, most of the guests started to leave, until eventually, there were only six of us left in the apartment. And we proved to be the biggest nerds of the night as we stayed ’til 2 a.m. to catch up on the last two episodes of ANTM. :D
