These streets are alright, still
Two shows in one week last week. And my feet did not hurt! Whoa.
Lily Allen: I was super surprised by the strength of her voice. She really belted it out, despite suffering from a sore throat. I was, however, very disappointed in her choice of attire. I know the girl was sick, but putting on a pretty dress is a great cure! Even if it may be temporary. Every true girly girl knows that.
Wardrobe blunders aside, it was a really fun show. Lily performed everything except Take What You Take. (I believe she once expressed disapproval of the song in an interview, citing the label as the one who was pushing for that track, wanting something with a more “Robbie Williams” sound.) She also threw in four covers to stretch out the set, two more than I expected. At one point while Em and I were singing along to Naïve, Lily smiled and winked at us. Hehe. I managed to sneak in about a minute and a half of video of Lily covering Blondie’s Heart of Glass before the security guard caught me.
Paolo Nutini: I totally did not realize that Paolo was that popular (Is he even getting any radio play here?), but I suppose with his “good looks”, I should’ve known he would move to a bigger venue and sell it out. Or maybe girls just really relate to the magic of New Shoes. In any case, he played to a packed audience of enraptured young girls and fever-pitched, Scottish football fans. No panties were thrown, but a football jersey and flag were! As for Paolo’s performance, it was all right. He spent most of his time hunched over the mic, eyes half closed, mumbly, and throwing disapproving glares at the soundboard as he constantly had to request the vocal and guitar volumes be turned up or down. So…drunk and picky? His voice was also a lot raspier live and he makes some seriously ugly guitar faces. Possibly uglier than John Mayer. Needless to say, I did not find him attractive.
